our Purpose
The Revolution of Esperanza (Hope)
Inspired by the work of the Esperanza Movement Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to homeless children, Steve and Dave decided to ride bikes across the country for the cause. Our mission for this Summer 2007 endeavor is severalfold:
- To have two sponsors for every mile that we ride (one sponsor for each of us), 100% of the proceeds going to the work of the Esperanza Movement Foundation;
- To spread awareness of the linked problems of child homelessness, human trafficking, and sex slavery;
- To show that anyone, even two regular guys like us, can be a small part of something big and important;
- To encourage the people of our country and the world to help others, especially when it requires personal sacrifice.
Neither of us have any experience with multi-day bike trips, but by trip’s end (most people don’t think we’ll get that far) we’ll have pedaled nearly 4,000 miles, crossed the USA’s three mountain ranges, and spent some 55-60 days in the saddle. Also, we intend to camp the entire way, never staying under a permanent roof, that we might better understand how easily a roof can be taken for granted.
Join us as we bring ESPERANZA RIDING.

I’m a friend of Crystal’s so I have been receiving updates of your adventure through her. I love what you are doing. I like the creative ingenuity of the whole adventure. I especially am inspired by the fact that you are camping the entire way in order to better understand the feeling of homelessness. We receive the broken body and spilt blood of Jesus so that we in turn may break our bodies and spill our blood for the world. amen. ~erica mcLaughlin

Dear Lord,
Help me spread your fragrance where I go. Flood my soul with your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that all my life may be a radiance of yours. Shine through me, and be in me, so that every soul I come in contact with may feel your presence in my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me, but only you. Stay with me, and then I shall begin as you do; to shine so as to be a light to others. The light will be all from you; none of it will be mine; it will be you shining on others through me. Let us praise you in the way you love best, by shining on those around me. Let me preach you without preaching, not by words, but by my example, by the catching force, the sympathetic influence of what I do, the evident fullness of the love my heart bears to you.
Thousands of people are dying for a piece of bread. Thousands upon thousands are dying for a little bit of love. Take the information that you have learned today and hold it close to your heart. Let it inspire you to perform the greatest form of expression of love, and join the Hope Movement

What’s up Davey Crocket Man of the Wild frontier,
Keep on riding big guy, your doing great. I am really proud of you so far, keep that will and determination strong and take it one day at a time. After this trip your going to be ready for the tour de france, that would probably feel easy compared to what you’re doing. You the man bro. Love listening to the audio updates, they’re a blast. Remember be like Little Johnny Long Hair in the Lord of the Rings and you can do anything. Also, you will face a lot of adversity out there on this trip but just stare the adversity in the face and ask, is that all you got and then kick its a**. Don’t let adversity get you down. Katie and I think about you everyday Dave. Keep rockin and ridin.
Love ya

Katie
